corte - the first session of treading the grapes in a lagare. The session usually lasts about 2 to 3 hours and consists of a methodical walking back and forth.
Lagares - granite or stone troughs in which the grapes are trodden by foot. A typical lagare holds 1,300 and 2,100 gallons.
Liberdade - the second session of treading in a lagare. This second session which can last 6 or 7 hours, often accompanied by music to keep the treaders entertained.
Patamares - wide flat terraces artificially created on the hillside on which the vines are grown.
Pipes - wooden casks in which Port Wine is matured.
Quinta (pronounced keenta) - A single farm or estate.
